Airbnb ‘must do more to protect against fraudsters’

Is Airbnb doing enough to protect its users against fraud? I ask this question because one of the most regular complaints we receive comes from readers who have lost money through scams perpetrated on the site.

It’s a stream that shows no signs of abating. In September alone, we received nine complaints from victims – who had typically lost around £1,000 each.

To be fair to Airbnb, it has done a good deal recently to try to improve its security. If users follow its guidelines regarding how to contact property owners and how to pay for their bookings securely, then not only should fraud be extremely difficult, but Airbnb promises to refund any money lost.
