Family loses £3,828 after hackers take over account
Police have warned of a huge increase in holiday and travel fraud and, as if to prove the point, I’ve heard from yet another victim.
Grainne McPherson and her extended family paid £3,828 for a stay in a Greek villa that they saw on TripAdvisor.com.
“We contacted the person by the email that was provided on TripAdvisor,” said Grainne.
Oddly, that person asked for payment in the virtual currency Bitcoin but Grainne refused and paid by bank transfer.
She only realised that she’d paid a fraudster when she rang the real owner of the property, who knew nothing about the booking.
