Industry-wide projects you might wish to join

I am writing to inform you of a some projects which you will be interested in joining.

VETTING

You may be aware that through the Fraud Intelligence Network we are working with 10 consortia and the Civil Aviation Authority on a system designed by the industry for the industry that will reduce fraud by applicants for membership, homeworkers, consultants and staff. This project consists of a smart database of pooled information of known fraudsters by the participants and two industry standards.

The work we are doing has already been recognised by The Insolvency Service, UK Policing, Towergate Chapman Stevens (insurers), FieldFisher (solicitors), and Hill Dickinson (solicitors) and we expect other official organisations, insurers, and law firms will quickly come on board.

HARDENING THE INDUSTRY AGAINST CYBER CRIME

Prevention of Fraud in Travel works closely with UK policing and we are founding partners of the Global Cyber Alliance*. On the 30th May 2017 we will be launching an initiative to roll out two free tools which will harden business systems and massively reduce the risks of spam, phishing emails, and ransomware attacks.

You may be aware that the UK government intends that all government agencies will use the DMARC solution. The tools are a ‘free good’ and we are keen to encourage as many organisations as possible to use them.

GASTRIC CLAIMS

In March, at the request of ABTA Ltd, we began working with a number of key industry partners, including cruise lines, hotels, insurers, regulatory bodies, solicitors, travel agents and tour operators on an effective solution to the rise in gastric illness claims. You will be aware that the new Package Travel Regulations will extend the liability for such claims to a much wider set of companies than is the case at present.

We have carried out a large body of work including in-depth analysis of what the underlying causes are and we are now drafting a strategy with the involvement of the regulators and police to quickly take control of the situation.

One element of the work is to develop a ‘claims module’ through the Fraud Intelligence Network of a smart database of pooled information which will commence development very shortly.
