Russian Cybercriminal Gets Prison For StubHub Scam

Law360, New York (July 6, 2016, 9:17 PM ET) — A Russian national accused of masterminding an international cybercrime scheme on Wednesday was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison for ripping off personal data from users of online ticket marketplace StubHub, which was used to resell tickets to sporting events, Broadway shows and concerts.

New York Supreme Court Judge Melissa Jackson handed down the prison term in Manhattan criminal court to Vadim Polyakov, 32, of Saint Petersburg, Russia, who previously pled guilty to money laundering and criminal possession of stolen property.

Polyakov, who was arrested while vacationing in Tarragona, Spain, and extradited to the U.S. following a joint dragnet by law enforcement officials in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., appeared in court in handcuffs and told Judge Jackson through an interpreter that he takes full responsibility for his actions.
