Travel Trust Association Fraud Case Study
The Travel Trust Association has teamed up with Prevention of Fraud in Travel (PROFiT) to carry out a case study with the aim of identifying the causes of payment fraud and reducing all TTA members exposure to this type of fraud. The case study will analyse how payment fraud affects members of the TTA highlighting common threats and will make recommendations of best practice for TTA members to prevent payment fraud.
PROFiT in conjunction with Fraud Intelligence Network (FIN) and the Police counter fraud body the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) jointly conducted a case study with the wider travel industry in 2012 the results of which can be found at Case Study Results. For the TTA case study PROFiT again will be working with FIN who are experts in the processing and analysis of fraud data and the NFIB part of the City of London Police who are the lead force for Economic crime in the UK.
What Participants Will Need to Provide
Case study participants will be required to provide all data they hold relating to the following types of bookings:
• Chargebacks – where a chargeback has been received from your bank
• Rejected bookings – where a booking has been stopped as it is suspected to be fraudulent
• Suspicious activity – where a booking has not been processed as it is suspected to be fraudulent
All data provided by case study participants will be processed and analysed via the FIN system and uploaded to the NFIB which will automatically get the information into the Police systems. Data provided will be anonymised so that your organisation cannot be identified, and the results will be published in a case study.
