Abta cyber attack

Thousands of holidaymakers are said to be at risk of fraud after having their personal details stolen in a cyber attack on Abta, Britain’s leading travel association. Here is what to do if you think you might be affected.

Who’s affected?

As many as 43,000 people were affected by the hack, with email addresses, passwords and contact details raided by internet criminals. Some 1,000 had “personal identity information” taken, Abta said, while 650 Abta members had data stolen.

The travel association, whose 1,200 members have an annual turnover of £32 billion, has warned anyone to have uploaded documentation to the website since January 11 to be vigilant regarding online and identity fraud and to “actively monitor bank accounts and any social media and email accounts you may have”
