British Airways is not giving away free airline tickets
If you’ve seen a photo of a first class British Airways ticket being posted on friends’ Facebook walls with captions like ‘worth a shot’ or ‘probably fake but giving it a try anyway’, don’t be tempted to join them.
This viral post claims to be a competition held by British Airways to give out 100 ‘All Inclusive first Class Trips to any destination worldwide’, including five star hotel ‘of your choosing’ and £5,000 in cash.
The entry mechanism is standard scam stuff: You share the photo. You like their page. You comment in the comments box under the photo – this time you write the number 1.
Previous scams like this (a British Airways and Delta Airlines one in 2015) have generated hundreds of thousands of likes and shares.
Every one of those people was tricked – and may have opened themselves and their friends up to spam and phishing posts.
