Banks are hit by largest cybercrime ever detected

The days of criminals putting a stocking over their face and stealing cash with a sawn-off shotgun over a bank counter, or masterminding events such as the Great Train Robbery, are largely over.

In the 21st Century, there has been a rise of sophisticated fraudsters operating in gangs to steal large sums from behind their computer screens instead, and it is causing banks a severe headache.

In the latest instance dubbed the largest ever cyber-crime the world has seen, fraudsters were sending money direct from banks to themselves and making cash machines pay out cash.
