Man found guilty of internet scams

A 23-year-old Victorian man found guilty of multiple internet and credit card fraud scams has appealed against his sentence and had it reduced to one year in jail.

Joash Boyton was involved in a number of computer scams using stolen credit card data from the time he was 17, until he was 20 years old.

He was found guilty of 34 offences and sentenced to four years and nine months in jail with a non-parole period of two years and six months.

At his trial, the court was told his parents were members of a religious group and he had a “shackled upbringing” where movies and television were forbidden.
