Travel agent warns of fraud scam
A travel agent is warning others in the industry to be aware, after discovering that a fraudster has been trying to sell holidays, masquerading as her agency.
London-based Cream Travel owner Roz Webster told TTG she wanted to alert the trade, after finding out that a fraudster had made £15,000 worth of hotel bookings through the Gateway booking portal.
Gateway had emailed the invoice to the fraudster, who had provided a Yahoo email address, but had received no response and so contacted Cream Travel to find out what was going on.
“They had booked three hotels in Spain in a very short space of time, using our name and website and contact details, but it was nothing to do with us,” Webster said. “It was all very odd – I want others to be aware of this.”
